Grant Nelson Drops the Hammer in Sweet 16

The Alabama Crimson Tide are rolling early in their Sweet 16 matchup against the BYU Cougars and one of their star forwards is once again lighting up the highlight reel.

Alabama senior forward Grant Nelson took to the skies in the first half to drop the hammer and gave a jolt to the Crimson Tide in Newark.

This is just the latest jam for Nelson, who has even celebrated some of his dunks with the football team's "Crimson Crane" pose. The 6'11" forward has been a major force behind the team making it back to the second weekend of the tournament, averaging 11.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

He played a big role in the team's 80-66 second-round victory over Saint Mary's last Sunday, providing 12 points and eight rebounds in the win.

Alabama jumped out to 51-40 lead at halftime and put itself in a good position to advance to the Elite Eight for a second straight season. This was a tight ballgame midway through the first half before the Tide were able to establish some separation with a 12-4 run.

A huge factor behind Alabama's early success was its 12 threes in the first half to just BYU's one. Mark Sears was the main driver behind that explosion from beyond the arc, as he had 17 points entering the break.

A win would put Alabama in Saturday's East Region final in Newark, where it would face either Duke or Arizona. A victory there would send the program to its second consecutive Final Four.
