Kansas men’s basketball coach Bill Self has secured his fourth win in the transfer portal.
Radford forward transfer Dennis Parker Jr. will be a Jayhawk, the 6-foot-6 Richmond, Virginia, product told On3 on Thursday.
Parker is the third forward Self has added this offseason, and comes in with a tremendous ceiling after averaging 18.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game for the Highlanders.
Parker started his career at N.C. State, where he’d appear in 52 games and played a part in the Wolfpack’s memorable 2024 NCAA Tournament run. Parker was the 94th overall recruit by Rivals coming out of high school and comes to Kansas with one year of eligibility remaining.
Kansas has its framework for the post position next season between Utah forward Keanu Dawes, Charleston center Christian Reeves and now Parker, who adds a third veteran presence to the block alongside returning sophomore Paul Mbiya, who never actually entered the transfer portal.
With the exception of Toledo transfer Leroy Blyden, Self’s newly formed frontcourt consists of veteran guys with three or more years of experience behind them. Parker is coming off the best season of his career, which included a 53-point performance against Coppin State.
Parker, with his resume, has as much of a chance of earning a place among the starting five as anyone on the roster. And even should he sit a bit to begin the season, his experience can’t be undervalued as the Jayhawks piece together a new-look roster after the portal wiped last year’s lineup clean from existence.
