Dodgers get major Mookie Betts injury update

It's been a month since star shortstop Mookie Betts last suited up for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Betts sustained an oblique strain on April 4 while running the bases against the Washington Nationals.

However, it may not be long before the former Boston Red Sox star is back on the diamond.

He's going to suit up for the Oklahoma City Comets, the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate, on Friday and Saturday, and he might be back with Dave Roberts' team on Monday to face the San Francisco Giants.

Mookie Betts might be back after the weekend

The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya revealed that Betts had been facing live pitching at Dodger Stadium, so he's clearly inching closer to full health.

"The plan, the source said, is for Betts to travel back to Los Angeles on Sunday, when the organization will evaluate his status before a potential activation on Monday against the San Francisco Giants," Ardaya reported

Betts is coming off a somewhat disappointing campaign by his standards, hitting .258 with 20 home runs and 82 RBI. He was going through a bit of a slump to start this campaign, logging a .179 batting average in his first eight games of the campaign.

That said, he's still one of the best players of his generation, a former MVP, multi-time All-Star and one of the clubhouse's most vocal and respected leaders.

The Dodgers are sitting on an NL-best 23-14 record, and getting Betts back in the lineup will be crucial to their aspirations of winning the first World Series three-peat since the 2000 New York Yankees.
