FOX Sports NFL color commentator Mark Sanchez was injured in an alleged stabbing in the city of Indianapolis in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Amid speculation and reports on his condition, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) have released a statement.
"IMPD is investigating a physical disturbance that happened near Senate Avenue and West Washington STreet on October 4, 2025, around 12:30 a.m. The incident involved two adult males, resulting in one man receiving lacerations and the other sustaining injuries consistent with stab wounds. Detectives believe this was an isolated incident between the two men and not a random act of violence.
"Both individuals, who are not legal residents (of Indianapolis), have been identified. IMPD Aggravated Assault detectives are continuing the investigation and have reviewed video footage of the incident. Both men received medical treatment. The man with the apparent stab wounds remains hospitalized in stable condition.
"The case will be presented to the Marion County Prosecutor's Office for a charging decision.
"It is the practice of the IMPD Public Affairs Office to not identify victims or suspects in incidents, unless the suspect is arrested, charged, or being sought."

Mark Sanchez’s NFL career is best remembered for his meteoric rise with the New York Jets and the roller-coaster journey that followed. Drafted f ifth overall in the 2009 NFL Draft out of USC, Sanchez was immediately thrust into the spotlight as the Jets’ starting quarterback. In his first two seasons, he guided New York to back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances (2009, 2010), notching playoff wins over Peyton Manning’s Colts and Tom Brady’s Patriots. His early postseason success made him one of just a handful of quarterbacks to reach four road playoff wins in his first two years.
However, Sanchez struggled with consistency as defenses adapted to his style of play. He lost his starting job after suffering a preseason shoulder injury in 2013 and never fully regained a permanent role as a starter in the league.
Following his Jets tenure, Sanchez served as a journeyman quarterback, spending time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington Redskins in backup roles. He officially retired in 2019, later transitioning to a successful career in sports media as an NFL analyst and broadcaster.
