Iowa State coach T.J. Otzelberger addressed the media this week with a clear and calm update on All-Big 12 forward Joshua Jefferson .

According to Otzelberger, Jefferson suffered a sprained wrist during practice, but the injury isn’t serious. He’s been in a cast for support, and the good news is that it’s scheduled to come off next week.

Otzelberger kept the update short and to the point, noting that Jefferson sprained his wrist but should be good to go in time for the season. The cast is expected to come off next week, and there’s no concern about lingering issues heading into fall workouts.

The injury occurred during offseason training, and while it’s never ideal to have a key player sidelined, the timing works in Iowa State’s favor. With summer workouts still underway and the season months away, Jefferson has plenty of time to recover and ease back into full activity before practices ramp up.

Otzelberger didn’t go into detail about the rehab timeline but made it clear that the program expects Jefferson to be fully cleared soon. It’s a minor setback in a critical development window, but one that shouldn’t impact his availability once the Cyclones start prepping for the 2025-26 campaign.

Once the cast is removed next week, Jefferson should begin light ball handling and shooting drills before rejoining scrimmages. There’s no indication the injury lingers beyond a few more days, and Otzelberger expects him to return without restrictions.

Iowa State fans can breathe a sigh of relief. With Jefferson returning soon, the Cyclones will regain their full arsenal as the season continues to grow closer.
