After new head coach Josh Pastner has started to rebuild the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels, Jailen Bedford, a key contributor from last season has decided to leave the program to transfer to Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech head coach Mike Young made the announcement on Wednesday welcoming Bedford to the team.
“We’re thrilled to have Jailen join the Hokies,” said Young.
“His journey to this point has shaped him into a resilient and dynamic player. Jailen really came on strong toward the end of the season for UNLV. We believe his skillset and leadership will be invaluable to us this upcoming season.”
Toward the end of last season, Bedford was an important piece to the UNLV offense in the absence of former guard Dedan Thomas, Jr, who was out due to an injury.
Last season, Bedford averaged 10.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
It is projected that Bedford will hold a similar role for Virginia Tech in coming off the bench.
He will be in a new competitive conference playing with the ACC. It will be interesting to see how Bedford does in a new environment.
It’s a sink or swim situation for Bedford this upcoming season as he continues to develop his skills.
