After some late-game drama in both ACC semifinal matchups on Friday night, the Louisville Cardinals outlasted the Clemson Tigers to secure their first-ever ACC Championship Game appearance, while Duke survived a massive comeback from the North Carolina Tar Heels to advance, despite star freshman Cooper Flagg being out with a sprained ankle.
Now, on Saturday, Flagg has already been ruled out once again, and it will be Louisville and Duke squaring off for the right to secure an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, as well as capture the ACC tournament title.
Ahead of the matchup, "College GameDay" analyst and Duke legend Jay Williams predicted the winner of the title game. While he highlighted Louisville's backcourt of Chucky Hepburn and Terrence Edwards Jr. as the best in the ACC, he is still backing his alma mater, Duke, to defeat the Cardinals.
"I think Terrence Edwards and Chucky Hepburn have the best backcourt in the ACC," Williams said. But I think ultimately Duke's size and their length on the defensive end... and I think not having Reyne Smith on the court ultimately hurts Louisville from a floor spacing perspective. I got Duke winning this game."
Duke has been right there with Auburn as one of the best teams in the country all season long, and they've done it with Cooper Flagg leading the way. While they got the job done without him against the Tar Heels, the Louisville Cardinals now present another challenge. Under first-year head coach Pat Kelsey, the Cardinals have experienced one of the biggest turnarounds in all of college basketball this season.
Both teams are set to be in the 68-team field on Selection Sunday when the bracket is unveiled, but on Saturday night, each has an opportunity to claim the ACC tournament championship with the game set to tip off at 8:30 p.m. EST.
