It certainly pays to be one of the best coaches in college basketball. Just ask Jim Larranaga, who at 74 years old continues to see his wealth increase. Let’s look at Jim Larranaga’s net worth in 2024.
From turning George Mason into one of the greatest Cinderallas in March Madness history to leading Miami to the Final Four, Larranaga has put together an impressive career as a college basketball coach. Jim Larranaga’s net worth in 2024 sits at about $5 million according to Sportskeeda.
The Miami basketball coach is arguably one of the most underrated head coaches in college basketball. By leading the Hurricanes through the Midwest region of the 2023 NCAA Tournament, Larranaga has taken two different schools to their first-ever Final Four. Only 15 other coaches in history have led multiple teams to the Final Four.
Well before he got to Miami, Jim Larranaga proved that he was among the top NCAA basketball coaches. In 2006, Larranaga led No. 11 seed George Mason to the Final Four. In maybe the most improbable March Madness run of all time, George Mason was tied for the lowest seed to ever make a Final Four appearance.
The Patriots defeated three Hall-of-Fame coaches during their historic run. George Mason and Larranaga took down Michigan State and Tom Izzo, Roy Williams and North Carolina and finally Jim Calhoun and UConn in the 2006 NCAA Tournament.
After spending 25 years as a head coach at mid-majors, Larranaga finally joined a college basketball program from a top-tier conference. Miami hired Larranaga in 2011, luring him away with a lucrative contract offer that George Mason couldn’t match.
When he left for Miami, Larranaga had a contract with George Mason that ran until 2016. The deal included a base salary of $525,000 per year and incentives that could pay the coach more than $1 million per year. George Mason Athletic Director Tom O’Connor said that Miami was able to offer Larranaga more than that in guaranteed money.
Larranaga has a $2.562 million salary for the 2023-24 college basketball season. Seven coaches who reached the 2023 Sweet 16 had a higher salary than Larranaga.
Shortly before the start of the 2022 NCAA Tournament, Miami announced that it signed Larranaga to a two-year contract extension that runs through the 2025-2026 season. They then extended it one more season following his Final Four run in 2023.
In 12 seasons, Larranaga has led the Hurricanes to six NCAA Tournament appearances. Miami made it to the Elite Eight in 2022 before finally reaching the Final Four in 2023 for the first time in program history. Larranaga ranks 26th in NCAA Division 1 history with 712 career wins as a head coach.
Before going 273-164 at George Mason, Larranaga had a 170-144 record as the head coach of Bowling Green. Larranaga is 270-166 in his career as the Miami head coach.
He might not be as well known as other coaches, but there’s no way around it: Jim Larranaga is one of the best coaches in college basketball. Larranaga took Miami to the Final Four.
Given the recent retirements of Williams, Calhoun, Mike Krzyzewski and Jim Boeheim, only a handful of active coaches have accomplished more in their careers than Larranaga. All that’s left is to cut down the nets in the final game of March Madness.
Were you at all stunned by Jim Larranaga’s net worth in 2024?

Pittsburgh Steelers training camp is in full swing, and it’s already been full of excitement. With many new faces on the roster, fans are eager to see how these additions will fit in. After a busy and eventful offseason, training camp serves as the perfect opportunity for all the anticipation surrounding the team to start coming together on the field. One of the most talked-about positions for the Steelers this offseason has been quarterback. The team completely overhauled the position, leading to plenty of uncertainty and speculation early on. While the Steelers were strongly linked to Aaron Rodgers for some time, no official deal had been made by the start of the 2025 NFL Draft. Amid the uncertainty, the team made a bold decision by selecting Will Howard out of Ohio State, bringing in a new face and creating even more talk about the future of the position. Because the Steelers picked Howard late in the draft, there were questions about what his role on the team would be. Even before Rodgers signed, it was clear Howard wouldn’t be the starter. However, during a recent 7 shots drill, Howard unexpectedly took reps with the third team, raising more questions about where he might fit in. Rodgers is clearly locked in as the starting quarterback, with the hope that he can stay healthy throughout the entire season. Earlier in the offseason, he mentioned that this would likely be his final year, though he expressed excitement about the opportunity to play for a franchise like the Steelers. That said, Rodgers has always been unpredictable, and there’s still a chance his career may continue beyond this season. Regardless of what the future holds, his experience and football knowledge are incredibly valuable to the other quarterbacks on the roster, and they’ve made it clear how much they appreciate having him around. Mason Rudolph is expected to be the primary backup behind Rodgers this season. Rudolph was originally drafted by the Steelers and has spent most of his career in Pittsburgh as a dependable backup. However, he’s also shown he can step up when needed, filling in during important games and leading the team when called upon. Rudolph spent last season with the Tennessee Titans, gaining additional experience outside of Pittsburgh. After that brief stint, he re-signed with the Steelers early in the offseason, bringing familiarity, veteran presence and stability to the quarterback room behind Rodgers. Rudolph recently shared that Rodgers has been both incredibly helpful and genuinely friendly since joining the team. Many expected Skylar Thompson, another veteran backup the Steelers signed this offseason, to be next in line on the depth chart. However, with Howard now taking third-team reps, he could move up the depth chart as the season progresses. Rookies bring an element of unpredictability since they’re adjusting to a completely new environment and haven’t yet played in professional games. It’s hard to know how they’ll perform until they get real field experience. If Howard continues to perform well, there’s no reason he shouldn’t climb higher on the depth chart. It’s unlikely that Howard will get much playing time this year, but that doesn’t mean this season isn’t important for him. Learning from a player like Rodgers is incredibly valuable, and Howard has shared how grateful he is to have Rodgers as a mentor. Even if he doesn’t take the field this season, the experience and knowledge he gains behind the scenes could greatly influence his opportunities for playing time down the road. Steelers' future at QB likely isn't on the roster The Steelers were connected to several quarterbacks in this year’s draft class, and the situation drew plenty of attention due to the uncertainty surrounding Rodgers at the time. Although the team eventually signed Rodgers and selected Howard in the later rounds, it seems the search for a long-term franchise quarterback may still be ongoing. Rodgers is only on a one-year deal, and reports have already surfaced that the Steelers are eyeing next year’s quarterback draft class. Opinions on Howard vary, as some view him as a potential career backup, while others are optimistic about his upside and believe he could develop into a solid starting option in the future. Will Howard prove himself and continue to move up the depth chart?
On Thursday, wrestling icon Terry "Hulk Hogan" Bollea died at the age of 71. "WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away," the company said in a statement. "One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s... WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans." Hogan was the first true superstar to emerge in the wrestling industry, capturing a casual audience worldwide and bringing new eyes to the sport. He was an unbelievable draw, both as a baby face and as a heel. From his time as an All-American hero to leading the New World Order and teaming with Randy Savage as part of the "Mega Powers," he has been a staple of the scene for decades. Who can forget his WrestleMania III moment, where he defied the laws of physics to body-slam a 520-pound Andre the Giant? Or, more recently, his match with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at WrestleMania 18? His last appearance on WWE RAW on Jan. 6 saw him booed throughout, highlighting the rocky legacy Hogan leaves behind. Hogan's universal popularity has plummeted in recent years, primarily due to a racism scandal that led to his removal from the Wrestling Hall of Fame, only to be reinstated in 2018. Nevertheless, the damage had been done. Hogan's outdated and unwelcome outlook on specific aspects of life derailed the final stanza of a legendary career. Still, there's no denying that without Hogan, the wrestling we know and love today wouldn't exist. There wouldn't be WWE on the world's largest streaming platform, or All Elite Wrestling, which is developing into one of the most successful challenger brands. Instead, there would be smaller, more localized promotions, all competing for a sliver of television time. Hogan popularized the sport by bridging the gap between the wrestling ring and Hollywood. During his time in the spotlight, Hogan appeared in movies such as "Rocky III," "No Holds Barred" and "Suburban Commando," all of which helped bring his larger-than-life persona to a new audience. It's no surprise, then, that The Rock, John Cena and Dave Bautista have all made similar jumps in recent years. Hogan leaves behind an everlasting imprint on the wrestling world. Unfortunately, it comes with multiple asterisks; however, that doesn't change what he achieved as the first global wrestling star.
Michigan and Ohio State are sure to play another spirited game on the gridiron this season, but it sounds like there will be no flag planting afterward regardless of the outcome. Michigan won its fourth straight game against Ohio State last season, and the Wolverines' latest victory was the biggest upset the rivalry has seen in years. The eventual national champion Buckeyes were ranked No. 2 in the country when an unranked Michigan team went into Columbus and beat them, 13-10. A huge scrum broke out after the game when Michigan players stood on Ohio State's midfield logo and pretended to plant their flag in enemy territory. The brawl got so out of hand that stadium police wound up using pepper spray. While speaking with reporters on Thursday, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore said his players will not be partaking in any flag-planting activity going forward. "There will be no more flag planting. There will be no more grabbing the flag," Moore said. "We talked about our new tradition and what we do when we win a game is go beat the band, go sing our (fight song) and stay over there until the other team departs. That's how we'll operate — shake hands after the game, show sportsmanship, be cordial." While there has been no formal ban of flag planting, Ohio State coach Ryan Day also expressed opposition to the act after last year's incident. Ohio State and Michigan have one of the best rivalries in sports, so there is always going to be bad blood between the two programs. Moore and Day are doing what they can to make sure things don't get out of hand again the next time their teams meet.
The New York Yankees are looking for answers at third base, and many analysts think they've found their guy in Arizona Diamondbacks star Eugenio Suárez. CBS Sports writer Mike Axisa urged the Yankees to make a big swing for both Suárez and Diamondbacks right-handed pitcher Merrill Kelly. "Suárez is the guy this trade deadline. The big rental bat who fits so many contenders. The Blue Jays, Cubs, Mets, and Tigers all make sense for Suárez in addition to the Yankees," Axisa wrote. "He's on pace for more than 50 homers, and although his third base defense leaves something to be desired at this point in his career, the power makes up for it." While Suárez has been linked to the Pinstripes over and over again for the past month, the move is unlikely after the team traded two prospects for Colorado Rockies infielder Ryan McMahon Friday afternoon. Kelly is a bit of a newer name and would fit nicely in the Yankees' starting rotation, according to Axisa. "Kelly, 36, is having yet another terrific season, one in which he's again outperformed ERA estimators that are based on exit velocity and other measures of contact quality allowed. Do it once and it might be a fluke, but Kelly has done it for close to 1,000 innings now. It's a skill," he wrote. "Kelly is plug-and-play. He'd slot in nicely as New York's No. 3 in October behind Fried and Carlos Rodón." Though it may be a difficult trade to pull off, especially with so many teams vying for Suárez, the Yankees have been struggling in the infield, and Axisa urged the team to pick up him and Kelly, no matter the expense. For a team with historically deep pockets, like the Yankees, they just might be able to pull it off. "Barring a surprise addition to the trade market (always possible), Suárez will be the best power bat available at the deadline, and Kelly will be one of the top starters available," he wrote. "Winning a bidding war to get one of them will hurt. Getting both would really put a dent in New York's young player pipeline. Both would fill needs and fill them very well though. They're worth the price." Make sure to bookmark Yankees On SI to get all your daily New York Yankees news, interviews, breakdowns and more!
