Jon Scheyer Compares Freshman Cameron Boozer to Legendary Duke Forward

Coach K may no longer be the head man for the Duke Blue Devils, but it has not stopped this program from churning out elite level NBA talent.

Just a few months after Duke star freshman Cooper Flagg went No. 1 overall to the Dallas Mavericks, the Blue Devils already have another potential top pick in the mix in Cameron Boozer.

Boozer is the son of former Duke forward and NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer. Cameron committed to play for his father's alma mater alongside his twin brother Cayden, and is expected to be among the most productive freshmen in all of college basketball in 2025-26.

Duke coach Jon Scheyer talked about what Boozer brings to this program on an episode of the "Inside College Basketball" podcast with Jon Rothstein, going as far as to compare him to another recent No. 1 overall pick from Durham - Paolo Banchero.

"He's like Paolo from a body perspective," Scheyer said. "There's differences in their game for sure, but Paolo when he stepped on the floor he always knocked people back with how big he was. I think Cam has the ability to do the same thing. He's always been the biggest guy on the floor and now he gets a chance to play with Pat (Ngongba) and Maliq (Brown) where he's not going to be the biggest guy. I think that's a huge advantage for him, using his size and then having the ball skills of a guard."

Boozer is listed at 6'9 and 250 pounds on Duke's website, and he's expected to play the four for coach Scheyer with Ngongba and Brown rotating in at the five.

Boozer's frame and ability to play away from the rim make him an incredibly difficult matchup for opposing teams. It's easy to see why he draws comparisons to Banchero, who was listed at 6'10 and 250 pounds when he suited up for the Blue Devils in the 2021-22 season.

Fans in Durham will be more than happy if Boozer is able to replicate Banchero's production - as the Seattle native averaged 17.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists while earning consensus All-American honors and leading Duke to the Final Four in Mike Krzyzewski's final season.

Boozer is a consensus five-star recruit out of Miami who is ranked No. 3 overall in the 2025 class at 247Sports, behind Kansas guard commit Darryn Peterson and BYU forward commit AJ Dybantsa.

Duke opens up the 2025-26 season at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Tuesday, Nov. 4 against the Texas Longhorns.
