Micah Parsons has been a Green Bay Packer for a week. He's trying to learn the scheme, treat his back injury, but also build new relationships with his new teammates. Outside of left tackle Rasheed Walker, who played with Parsons at Penn State, and some players with the same agent, it's a lot of new faces in a new place.
So far, so good. Parsons has been impressed with what he saw inside the locker room and the culture within the Packers organization.
"I’ve never been in a locker room with guys like this. I came in Tuesday for treatment and I saw almost every guy in the locker room," Parsons said after practice on Thursday. "I said this is the first time I've ever seen this, and that just shows how much these guys want to be here. They say it’s because there ain’t nothing else to do, but there’s other things you could do. I think that’s important, and when you’re around guys like that, it makes it exciting to come to work.”
It's still yet to be determined how many snaps Parsons will be able to play on Sunday against the Detroit Lions, but the defensive star wants to give it all.
"I’m so hungry, I want it all at once. But that’s why you have coaches. I’ve always been like that. I want to get everything I need in one meal. That’s just always been me since I was a kid. All I know is go," Parsons mentioned. "I know once I get out there, I’m just going to want to go. And the first thing was, well, we’ve got to see how your body is, we’ve got to do that. Because at the same time, I do have to get healthy. I have to do all those little things to make sure there’s longevity in this. It’s 18 weeks. There are hopes for a playoff run, and a long playoff run. So we have to think about that and make sure everything is good to go."
The Packers already had two former first-round picks at edge defender. And while Rashan Gary is a Pro Bowler and certainly the more established player at the position, Parsons has been impressed with Lukas Van Ness and the interior rushers.
“I really like how [Van Ness] plays. He plays that run well, he gets up vertical well. I know I can count on him for a bull rush," Parsons explained. “I’ve never been around a group of 3-techs that can rush and play the run like this.”
Parsons' praise of Van Ness is notable. The former first-round pick has been struggling and is set to change positions.
Money was certainly the big reason why Micah Parsons became a Packer in the first place. But now that he is in Green Bay, there are several other reasons to be excited about.
