The Kansas Jayhawks have landed a No. 4 seed in the 2026 NCAA Tournament, as announced by the selection committee on Sunday night. Kansas is coming off of an 69-47 loss to Houston in the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament on Friday in Kansas City. Kansas will take on No. 13 seed Cal Baptist on Friday in the East Region. If they win, they will play the winner of St. John’s and Northern Iowa in the 5-12 game.

Kansas 2025-26 Basketball Season

When you think of March Madness, there’s a pretty good chance you think of Bill Self. The Kansas Jayhawks are primed and ready for a deep run, and have shown some real upside this season when the squad is healthy. Led by star guard Darryn Peterson, the Jayhawks are a tough draw for just about anyone in the country. Kansas finished off the regular season at 23-10 and 12-6 in league play.

Outside of Peterson, the squad is deep. Melvin Council Jr. has been an incredible pickup. Flory Bidunga, Tre White, and Bryson Tiller are key contributors, averaging 35.5 points, 21.9 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per contest.

The Jayhawks are led by one of the college basketball greats, Bill Self, who is in his 23rd season in Lawrence and has gone 631-166 in his time with the program.

Kansas NCAA Tournament History

It should go without saying, but Kansas is one of the best programs in the history of college basketball when it comes to discussing resumes and achievements. The Jayhawks have won four National Titles throughout their history in 1952, 1988, 2008, and 2024. They’ve reached the Final Four 16 times, the Elite Eight 23 times, and the Sweet 16 a whopping 31 times.

Last season, the Jayhawks suffered an early exit in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament with a loss to the Gonzaga Bulldogs. They’ll look to avenge that this season with a deep roster hand picked by legendary head coach Bill Self.
