Monday, April 14th, was a day that shed light on the future roster makeup of Jerome Tang’s Kansas State Wildcats.

The group wound up losing both of their remaining big men on the roster to the transfer portal, with both Ugonna Onyenso and Baye Fall departing the program.

While both Fall and Onyenso had been rumored at various times, many believed the tides were turning toward a return for the former Kentucky center Ugonna Onyenso. That would not be the case as he decided to return to the open market in search of a third program in four seasons.

Despite being brought in as a key piece for the Wildcats in 2024-25, Onyenso drastically underperformed for Tang’s group, posting just 11.1 minutes in 24 games played. He recorded an average of 2.8 points and 2.4 rebounds on 70% shooting from the field.

Coming out of Putnam Science Academy in the Class of 2022, Onyenso was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the 36th-ranked player in his class. He also checked in as the ninth-ranked player at his position and the top-ranked player in the state of Connecticut.

The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, March 24, 2025. According to NCAA data, 1,296 FBS basketball players entered the transfer portal in the 2023-24 school year, with 864 (66.7%) undergraduates and 432 (33.3%) graduate transfers. Of the entrants, 70% reported that they enrolled in another school, 6% withdrew their names from the portal, and 23% are still active, transferred to a non-NCAA school, or left their sport.
