KU Guard Noah Shelby Looks for New Opportunity

Kansas guard Noah Shelby has entered the NCAA transfer portal after spending one season in Lawrence.

Shelby, originally from McKinney, Texas, joined the Jayhawks as a transfer from Rice and previously spent time at Vanderbilt. His decision marks his third move in a college career that has spanned the SEC, American, and now Big 12 footprints.

Shelby redshirted for Kansas during the 2024-25 season behind a deep backcourt roster in Lawrence. In the previous season, the Texas native posted 3.9 points, one rebound, and 0.8 assists per game at Rice. Despite his shooting touch and flashes of perimeter defense, Shelby was not ready to see the court on Bill Self‘s squad.

With Kansas reloading and minutes at a premium, Shelby’s move opens up both a scholarship and a spot in the pecking order. Bill Self has emphasized competition in every position group this offseason, and the departure reflects the program’s ongoing effort to strike a balance between experience and development. It also signals that Shelby is searching for a landing spot where opportunity and role clarity are easier to find.

For Shelby, the next stop will be critical. As a veteran guard with SEC, AAC, and Big 12 experience, he brings maturity and versatility to any program in need of backcourt depth.

Whether he lands at a mid-major looking for an instant contributor or a Power Four program offering a limited role, Shelby’s next move will shape the trajectory of the final stretch of his college career.
