Guard Trey McKenney was a big piece to the Michigan Wolverines' national championship-winning season. The true freshman appeared in 40 games, averaging 9.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.9 assists. He also shot 46.2% from the field and 39.1% from beyond the three-point line.
Coming out of the 2025 recruiting class as a four-star prospect, the No. 6 shooting guard and the No. 21 player in the nation, per Rivals Industry Rankings, he lived up to expectations. His time in Ann Arbor isn't done either, as McKenney will be returning to the Wolverines for his sophomore season, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.
His production quickly made him a fan favorite for Michigan. He's taken full advantage of the benefits that brings, revealing name, image and likeness partnerships with Zarbee's, Geico, McDonald's and True Religion.
Despite now being in the offseason, he isn't done capitalizing on his popularity. On Tuesday, McKenney announced a new NIL partnership with Savvy Sliders via a joint Instagram post.
"@treymckenney brought home the natty for the first time since 89’, then hit Savvy’s like a champ! #savvyambassador," the post reads.
With his latest partnership announced, McKenney is set to face increased pressure going into his sophomore season. Michigan is set to lose guard Nimari Burnett, who started 40 games last season but has run out of eligibility.
It's a role that McKenney could be expected to take over as the Wolverines try to win back-to-back national championships. However, after not making any starts last year, it intensifies expectations, giving the guard more responsibility and playing time.
