The Oklahoma Sooners don't have the greatest men's basketball program in the world. They are much more known for football, softball, and even women's basketball right now
But, that's not to say that there haven't been some pretty incredible things to happen with that program over the last decade or so. They have a handful of Final Four appearances along with some really good players who have come through the program, but most importantly for the sake of this article, they have developed talent for the NBA fairly well.
We all know about Blake Griffin and Buddy Hield. And, we know about Trae Young, the local Norman kid who is one of the best PGs in the NBA. But now there is Jeremiah Fears, a one-and-done guard from this last season who was just drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans.
I wrote when he was drafted that it was unfortunate for him to be drafted by New Orleans. They are a "cursed" organization, at least that's what former players say. They are consistently a bad team, and they always have injuries. But now that I think about it, Fears will be okay.
I mean, this is Jeremiah Fears we are talking about. And, a guy who was in his exact shoes not too long ago feels the same way.
"He will be fine. When you’re a one-and-done guard from Oklahoma, there’s just something about it," Young said.

When Young was drafted, there were qualms that he would be too small and that his shooting style wouldn't translate to the NBA. That was seven years ago. It's definitely worked out for him. He led the league in assists last year while also averaging 24 points per game.
Fears has the talent to do that, and he is similar to Young in that both were drafted to really bad franchises that haven't really had a ton of success. Young, who's seen it all by now, knows what he sees in Fears.
