The Pitt basketball staff has been on a tear in the recruiting world over the past few years, and on Wednesday, that stretch continued.
2025 guard prospect Omari Witherspoon, who is ranked as the No. 104 prospect in the nation by 247 Sports, committed to the Panthers over Maryland and Vanderbilt. Witherspoon becomes the first prospect in the class of 2025 to commit to Pitt, but six other prospects still have the Panthers in their top six currently: Meleek Thomas, Derek Dixon, Isaiah Denis, Amari Evans, Davion Hannah, and Niko Bundalo.
Looking at Witherspoon’s commitment, he fits the mold of a Pitt guard. He’s tall, he’s from the DMV, and he’s what scouts have called a “stock riser” or a “late bloomer” in the recruiting world. Let’s see how Witherspoon’s height, hometown, and ranking compare to the last nine guard commitments that Jeff Capel has brought in.
