The Texas Tech Red Raiders men's basketball team is in the midst of a magical season. They're 20-6 overall and tied for third in the Big 12 with an 11-4 league record.

Coach Grant McCasland is receiving the brunt of the credit for the Red Raiders season and has been named to the 2025 Werner Ladder Naismith Men's College Coach of the Year Watch List.

McCasland is in his second season in Lubbock and holds a 43-17 record with Tech with a home record of 28-4 at United Supermarkets Arena. He's 254-106 for his NCAA coaching career.

Coach McCasland has some worthy competition, as the watch list also includes Greg Gard (Wisconsin), Dennis Gates (Missouri), Todd Golden (Florida), Penny Hardaway (Memphis), Tom Izzo (Michigan State), Pat Kelsey (Louisville), Dusty May (Michigan), Ben McCollum (Drake), Matt Painter (Purdue), Bruce Pearl (Auburn), Rick Pitino (St. John's), Richard Pitino (New Mexico), Kelvin Sampson (Houston) and Jon Scheyer (Duke).

McCasland and Sampson are the only two Big 12 coaches represented.

Tech started the season unranked but quickly found themselves inside the top 15 and currently sit inside the top 10 at No. 9.
