Former West Virginia big man Sagaba Konate is set to join Best Virginia for the TBT tournament this summer. This marks the second time Konate joins WVU’s alumni team, with the first being in 2021.

“Sags’ ability to alter shots is unmatched,” Chase Harler said. “He’s one of the best shot blockers in college basketball history. He has become a complete player and he will tremendously help us this summer.”

Konate joins a roster of Teyvon Myers (G), Jonathan Holton (F), Taz Sherman (G), Wesley Harris (F) and Esa Ahmad (F).

Konate played at West Virginia from 2017-19, where he remains as the all-time blocked shots leader with 191. Konate averaged 8.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.4 blocks during his 81 career games with the Mountaineers. After college, Konate has played professional basketball in Spain, Germany, Italy, Germany, Turkey and Hungary. Konate also played for the Toronto Raptors’ G-League team in 2019.

Harler returns as Best Virginia’s general manager and head coach, while Greg Richardson (assistant GM) and Dave Ryan (marketing) also are in the works again with the team.

This will be the first time since 2020 that Best Virginia won’t host their own regional, playing in Charleston and Wheeling the last three summers. Pitt’s alumni team, The Zoo Crew, will do the honors of hosting their own regional this summer at the Petersen Events Center from July 19-24.

The Basketball Tournament is a 64-team field, which the winning team takes home $1 million.
