Steven Izzo got emotional while talking about his first career bucket as a Spartan on Sunday afternoon against Rutgers.

Sunday was a special day for Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo, the fans, and Steven Izzo especially.

After being scoreless for four years as a Spartan, Steven finally got into the scoring column with a crazy and-one. The senior walk-on drove to the basket, threw up a shot while getting hit, and it dropped in for his first career bucket as the crowd went insane.

Not only did the crowd go wild but Izzo’s teammates rushed him while he laid on the floor and celebrated with him like he just hit a 30-footer at the buzzer to win the game. It was quite the sight.

But the best sight was probably Steven sharing a moment with his dad. They shared a smile, an embrace, and a couple of high-fives after the and-one dropped and Steven talked about the moment after the game. He was incredibly emotional about the basket and you know that it had been a long time coming for the walk-on.

Hearing just how much this meant to Steven was pretty cool. Knowing that this is what he’s wanted for a long time and finally scoring has everyone rooting for him. Seeing him get emotional about it made this moment even more special.

Steven is a great team player and gives it his all as a morale guy and during practice throughout the week. And you could see how much this meant to Tom as well as Steven’s teammates. They all went insane after the basket went in and he completed the three-point play and that had to make Steven even more emotional.

It felt like we had been waiting an eternity for Izzo to score, but it finally happened and a weight has been lifted.
