The Texas Longhorns have secured two transfer portal commitments so far this offseason under head coach Sean Miller but were unable to snag a third on Sunday.
Per reports Sunday from 247Sports, North Dakota State transfer guard Jacari White has committed to Virginia after taking a visit to Texas. The Longhorns were one of five other schools in the running for White alongside Houston, Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, and West Virginia.
White has been an emerging name this offseason after a solid 2024 campaign with the Bison. He spent three years at North Dakota State, finishing this past season with a career-best 17.1 points and 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He showed major ability to fill it up, tallying 14 games with at least 20 points and three 30-point finishes.
He scored a season-high 32 points on 5 of 7 shooting from deep in a win over South Dakota in January. He also dropped 27 points on 7 of 9 from 3-point range and had seven rebounds in North Dakota State's upset win on the road over Butler in December.
Had he chosen Texas, White would have joined a transfer class that already includes Xavier wing Dailyn Swain and Purdue forward Camden Heide. The Longhorns have also secured some notable roster retentions this offseason with guards Chendall Weaver, Tramon Mark and Jordan Pope all returning along with forward Nic Codie.
Miller emphasized player development during his introductory press conference. Though Weaver, Mark and Pope are all veterans, getting them to return helps aid the program in slowly building a culture of roster retention and player development in this NIL-infested world, even if it's only a baby step.
"Players have to improve. They have to grow," Miller said. "They have to get better, and when you're in charge or a part of that type of program, we're going to bring that same type of staff and know-how here to Texas, so that it's not only recruiting great talent, but it's making sure that they develop in the proper way, that one day they can become an NBA player."

AUBURN, Ala.-- The Auburn Tigers enter the 2025-26 season in a new era with Steven Pearl taking the reins of the program for his first season as a head coach. With him comes a relatively new team with only sophomore guard Tahaad Pettiford being the lone returning scholarship player from last year's Final Four team. As a result of the many new faces surrounding the program, ESPN's Jeff Borzello is not as high on the program this season as in years past. In his final college basketball preseason ranking, Borzello ranked Auburn No. 17 nationally heading into the season. Still, another strong season would not surprise Borzello due to Auburn's system not expected to change much. "Truthfully, we didn't know how far to drop Auburn after Bruce Pearl's sudden retirement last month," he wrote. "The team remained intact, and his son Steven Pearl is expected to lean on what should be a very talented top end of the roster. Moreover, he coached the defense while Mike Burgomaster was the offensive coordinator, so the system should remain fairly similar." Additionally, Borzello pointed to Pettiford, who averaged nearly 12 points per game as a freshman off the bench last season, and transfer Elyjah Freeman as impact players for this season. "Tahaad Pettiford is an elite playmaker who will be surrounded by three high-major transfers and a potential NBA talent on the wing in Elyjah Freeman," he wrote. Freeman, who averaged nearly 20 points per game at D-II Lincoln Memorial last season, is one of four transfers to join the team this season alongside guard Kevin Overton (Texas Tech) and forwards Keyshawn Hall (UCF) and KeShawn Murphy (Mississippi State). Borzello predicts all four transfers to join Pettiford in the starting lineup this season. "The expectations are the expectations. There’s only one way to tackle those and that’s to dive in headfirst," Pearl said in his introductory press conference. "We tell our players all the time, you have to be comfortable being uncomfortable. We’ve got to be comfortable with these expectations because they are what they are. "The expectation is to win championships, the expectation is to graduate our players and the expectation is to get our guys to the next level. That’s what we’re going to do and that’s what our commitment is to these young men, that’s what our commitment is to this university and that’s what our commitment is to this fan base. Cowboys list 18 players on their injury report but a couple of names steal the spotlight as their return appears very likely
The Dallas Cowboys just revealed their first injury report of Week 6 on Wednesday and it's a long one. The team listed 18 players on it ahead of their matchup against the Carolina Panthers, five of which were non-participants while 10 were limited. The remaining three players on the report were listed as full participants. Two of latter stole the spotlight amid the bitter updates as their "full" participation means they're close to making their 2025 debut very soon: Cornerback Caelen Carson and wide receiver Jonathan Mingo. Neither of the them are currently on the 53-man roster but the Cowboys activated their 21-day practice window last week. Carson and Mingo were limited participants in each of last week's practices. To be upgraded to full on the first practice of the week is a promising sign for their chances of playing against the Panthers. The coaching staff would need to open up roster spots to place them on the 53-man roster. Other notes on Cowboys' initial injury report for Week 6 CeeDee Lamb was a non-participant once again as his chances of playing Week 6 remain up in the air. KaVontae Turpin also missed practice and told reporters he wasn't expecting to play. Right guard Tyler Booker also missed practice. The new additions to the non-participants were LB Jack Sanborn (concussion) and S Donovan Wilson (elbow/knee). Safety is starting to look like a serious concern. Malik Hooker was placed on Injured Reserve last weekend and now Wilson missed practice while Juanyeh Thomas popped up on the injury report as a limited participant. Other starters that were limited participants: CB Trevon Diggs, CB DaRon Bland, OT Tyler Guyton, LG Tyler Smith. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer suggested Guyton will start at left tackle if cleared. Bengals QB Jake Browning angry about being benched for Joe Flacco, but team had no choice
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Jake Browning has officially been benched, and he is not taking it lightly. Browning has started the last three games for the Bengals in the wake of a toe injury that Joe Burrow suffered in Week 2. After going 0-3 in those games, the Bengals decided to acquire Joe Flacco in a trade with the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor announced on Wednesday that Flacco will start in Week 6 against the Green Bay Packers. That means the new guy is taking Browning's job right away, which is hardly a surprise. Jake Browning is not happy about losing his job Browning spoke with reporters shortly after Taylor revealed that Flacco will start in Green Bay. The 29-year-old quarterback said the situation "sucks" but that he understands how the business of the NFL works. "I think it sucks but, like I said, everyone's in the middle of a season. I think, 'Welcome to pro football,'" Browning said. "If you don't play well, you're gonna get replaced, and that's what I'm going through." Browning also admitted he is angry over being benched. Though, he said he is not willing to shoulder the blame for everything that has gone wrong for Cincinnati since Burrow went down. "For me, I'm trying to respond the right way. Obviously, I'm pi--ed. If I wasn't pi--ed, then I shouldn't be in this locker room," Browning added. "I'm aware of the role I played in the offensive struggles over the last few weeks, but I'm also not shouldering the entire situation. I went through yesterday, watched my throws, tried to come up with some stuff I want to work on, and just doing that." Zac Taylor had no choice but to make a switch Browning threw three interceptions in Cincinnati's 37-24 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. He completed 26 of 40 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns as well, but anything positive that the veteran did came when the game was essentially out of hand. In his two starts prior to the Lions loss, Browning threw for a total of 265 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. The Bengals scored 13 points in the two games combined. Ja'Marr Chase looked extremely frustrated at times and even had a heated exchange with Taylor on the sideline. Taylor had been facing tremendous pressure from fans to make a quarterback change. It would not be a surprise if Cincinnati's front office and some players expressed a desire for Browning to be benched, as well.

Notre Dame (3-2) is trying to, for the second time in as many years, rattle off a double-digit winning streak in order to make the College Football Playoff. Last season it was 10-straight wins to close the regular season, most of them in convincing fashion, that set Notre Dame up for a playoff berth and consiquential run. This year, Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame are looking for a bit of that same magic. Instead, though, this year Notre Dame began 0-2, didn't have a marquee victory over Texas A M, but also doesn't have a brutal loss like Northern Illinois had in 2024. Assuming Notre Dame wins out, which still can't be guaranteed, is it a shoo-in for a playoff berth? Josh Pate Weighs In On Notre Dame's Playoff Chances at 10-2 There is a strong possibility that Notre Dame can win 10 games this year, and none of those victories would come against ranked opponents. Even in that case, Josh Pate of On3 and ESPN sees no way Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish would be left out of the dance. Pate was on Always College Football with former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy and was adamant about Notre Dame's playoff chances, assuming it wins 10 games. “I’m really interested in this Notre Dame conversation because I’m telling you, I don’t think there’s much of any world where a 10-2 Notre Dame is left out,” Pate said. “I know what the counter arguments are…Let’s say legitimately there are no ranked wins on Notre Dame’s schedule come season’s end…If you were to invert their schedule, if we had played Miami later, if we had played those teams later, where our new quarterback was more seasoned and in tune with the offense, it would’ve been a different story,” Pate said. “You can’t prove it counterfactual, which is the brilliance in that strategy.” Life is Easier for Pretty People, Such as Notre Dame While cases will be made that a potential three-loss Big Ten or SEC team should get in over a two-loss Notre Dame team, one fact remains. Notre Dame is still Notre Dame. I'm not saying that to be arrogant, I'm saying that as someone who is aware. Few teams draw interest like Notre Dame does, and the fact it went on a run to the national championship game last year only adds to that. I won't go as far as Pate to say I don't see a world where 10-2 Notre Dame doesn't get in, because I think there are certain ways things could fall that would make it difficult. I will say, though, that if there are multiple teams with seemingly equal cases, it's hard to imagine Notre Dame gets passed over.
