Michigan State star Tyson Walker is listed as one of eight players who could win the national player of the year.

It may be football season, but basketball fans are already getting excited about the start of the 2023-24 season approaching.

Michigan State fans are especially excited considering they get to cheer for one of the best teams in the country. They bring back starters like Tyson Walker, AJ Hoggard, Malik Hall, Mady Sissoko, and Jaden Akins. Bringing back all of that talent while bringing in the No. 4 recruiting class in the country elevates all expectations.

The Spartans might have the most complete roster in the Big Ten and one of the best starting fives in the entire country.

Every national title contender has a go-to scorer or two and Michigan State is no exception. Walker is that guy for the Spartans and he’s already earning some national recognition from some college hoops experts.

According to Jamie Shaw of On3, Walker is one of eight players who could win college basketball’s national player of the year award.

There are some obvious picks on there like Zach Edey (winner of the award in 2022-23), Armando Bacot, Max Abmas, and Kyle Filipowski. Hunter Dickinson was a surprise, but maybe going to Kansas was the best thing for his career. He could benefit from finally being surrounded by a loaded roster.

And then you have Walker who is arguably the best offensive threat on maybe the best team in the Big Ten. He’s not the biggest guy, but he plays with no fear. I would not be shocked if Walker is an All-Big Ten first-teamer and Big Ten Player of the Year candidate.

Walker is coming off a career year with Michigan State and is going to have a lot of pressure taken off his shoulders with more weapons this season.

Will Walker be one of college basketball’s best players in 2023-24? I say yes. And so does Shaw.
