Caitlin Clark Shows Support for Former Iowa Hawkeyes Star on Monday

Monday marked the official start of free agency in the NBA. Things have already been hectic around the league in recent days with seemingly countless trades taking place.

One team that has been active on the trade market is the Boston Celtics, who could be without star forward Jayson Tatum for all of the 2025-26 season after he tore his Achilles in the playoffs. They traded center Kristaps Porziņģis and guard Jrue Holiday, and they seem to be set for a gap year of sorts after failing to repeat as NBA champs.

On Monday, they agreed to a deal with free agent big man Luka Garza. WNBA star Caitlin Clark, who, like Garza, is a former Iowa Hawkeye, reacted to the news on social media.

Garza, 26, stands 6-feet-10 and weighs 243 pounds, and was a sizable star while at Iowa. He was voted the national college player of the year in 2021 with averages of 24.1 points and 8.7 rebounds a game, and that year, he shot 55.3% from the field and 44% from 3-point range.

He hasn't been able to duplicate that type of success in the pros, however. In four NBA seasons, the Washington, D.C. area native has career averages of 4.9 points and 2.0 rebounds in 7.8 minutes a game.

Clark, of course, was as big a star as one could be while at Iowa, and since coming into the WNBA last year, she has taken women's basketball by storm. While she has been struggling with her shooting, she has been named a starter in the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game.
