Flau’jae Johnson is no stranger to the spotlight. From her early days growing up in Savannah, Georgia, to her high school basketball career at Sprayberry High School, Johnson has always drawn attention for her talent both on and off the court.
After participating in the prestigious McDonald's All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic, Johnson committed to LSU to play her college basketball. With the Tigers, she helped lead the team to a national championship in 2023. This past season, she was named to the All-SEC First Team for her outstanding performance.
In addition to her success on the court, Johnson is also one of the top earners in college basketball through Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals. Her partnerships include major brands such as Puma, Meta, JBL and Taco Bell. She also holds an equity stake in the women’s 3-on-3 basketball league, Unrivaled.
But Johnson’s ambitions extend beyond basketball. She is also a successful rapper, and on Monday, she added yet another high-profile achievement to her resume: an appearance at the 2025 Met Gala.
She announced her new partnership with CoverGirl on social media, posting several photos from the event in Manhattan along with the caption:
"not the same girl you MET before ❤️#MetGala2025 I partnered with @covergirl to create a beautiful soft glam look! #covergirlpartner"
While full details of the CoverGirl deal have yet to be disclosed, this partnership further cements Johnson’s status as one of the most marketable athletes in college sports. Johnson has cited her NIL success as a key factor in her decision to forgo the WNBA draft and return to LSU for another season.
In her final game of the 2024-25 season, Johnson delivered a strong performance, scoring 28 points on 10-of-17 shooting in LSU’s Elite Eight loss to top-seeded UCLA in the NCAA Tournament. She finished the season with a career-best average of 18.6 points per game.
Looking ahead, Johnson will return to Baton Rouge for her senior season, teaming up with head coach Kim Mulkey and several talented newcomers. LSU’s incoming transfer portal class includes MiLaysia Fulwiley from South Carolina, Kate Koval from Notre Dame and Amiya Joyner from East Carolina, setting the stage for another championship run.
