LSU Coach Kim Mulkey's Unexpected Postgame Moment Goes Viral After NCAA Tournament Win
Scott Clause / USA Today

The most stressful moment for legendary LSU coach Kim Mulkey on Monday may have come after her team's NCAA Tournament win.

The Tigers breezed through their second-round matchup, riding a dominant second half to a 101-71 win over Florida State to earn a return trip to the Sweet Sixteen. Though the Tigers held just a one-point lead at halftime, they held the Seminoles scoreless for close to seven minutes in the second half and outscored them 31-6 in the third quarter.

But the normally unflappable Mulkey had a bit of difficulty in her postgame interview, with her grandson walking behind her and yanking the headset off of her head.

Whether the move was intentional or not, Mulkey rolled with it.

"That's why you love grandkids, right?" she joked.

With the win, Mulkey and the Tigers advance to the third round of the NCAA Tournament for a third straight season, a streak that started with their national title run in 2023.

The Tigers are looking to make up for last year's Elite Eight loss to Iowa, a rematch of the national title game and between stars Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark.

Mulkey was loose before Monday's game, with USA Today's Cydney Henderson reporting that she joined her team in performing the Flex Line Dance at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center prior to the game.

"Mulkey was donning a white pullover when she jumped in to showcase her dance moves," the report noted. "She later switched to a bedazzled cerulean blue suit jacket and a pair of white trousers for tip-off against the Seminoles."
