Kim Mulkey is facing a major controversy amid the NCAA Tournament. Despite that, however, the LSU Tigers continue to support her and back her up.

Tigers star Aneesah Morrow shared as much after the team’s Round of 32 win over the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders on Sunday.

Kim Mulkey’s Controversy Amid LSU Tigers’ NCAA Tournament

For those not in the know, Mulkey is currently involved in a controversy over an unreleased Washington Post report. While there’s still no information about the article, it’s expected to be a negative piece that could damage the Tigers coach’s reputation.

Mulkey herself hinted as much when she address it after rumors of the report started to circulate online. The national champion coach shared that it’s a “hit piece” that includes comments from former disgruntled players.

“Former players have told me that The Washington Post has contacted them and offered to let them be anonymous in a story if they’ll say negative things about me. The Washington Post has called former disgruntled players to get negative quotes to include in their story. They’re ignoring the 40-plus years of positive stories that they have heard from people about me,” Mulkey added.

Mulkey also threatened to sue the Washington Post if they publish a false story about her, noting that she has “hired the best defamation law firm in the country.”

“Not many people are in a position to hold these kind of journalists accountable, but I am, and I’ll do it. That’s all I’m going to say about this right now. And now I’m going to get back to talking about my basketball team and winning this game tomorrow,” Mulkey added.

While some might think that the issue is causing a distraction for the Tigers, Mulkey set the record straight following their 83-56 win over the Blue Raiders and emphasized that they are not letting the issue take away their focus from their goal in the NCAA Tournament.

Aneesah Morrow, LSU Tigers Support Kim Mulkey

Fortunately for Kim Mulkey, she is not alone facing her recent off-court battles. The LSU Tigers continue to support their head coach, with Aneesah Morrow emphasizing that they have her back.

“Coach Mulkey’s had our back all year, so we’ve got to have Coach Mulkey’s back. We’ve got to play hard and for one another — and that’s as simple as it is,” Morrow shared, via ESPN.

That’s definitely awesome to hear from Morrow and the Tigers. Sure enough, Mulkey has established a tight-knit group in LSU, and she couldn’t ask for anything better than that.

As Mulkey said, however, hopes are high that the issue won’t be a cause of distraction for her and the players. The moment is too big and the pressure is too high for the team, and any controversy could very well affect them if left unresolved.
