Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball team have been among the top players in the sport over the past several seasons.

South Carolina is considered one of the best women's basketball programs in the country under Staley, having recently qualified for the national title game.

The Gamecocks were looking to win yet another title under Staley, but ultimately lost to another juggernaut, the UConn Huskies.

Geno Auriemma and his team were the latest to be crowned champions in the women's college basketball landscape.

UConn and South Carolina, both viewed as the upper echelon of their respective sport, have been competing against each other for years, but fans just got bad news.

On Friday, it was announced that South Carolina and UConn will not meet in the regular season in the 2025-26 period.

This will be the first time their non-conference game won't be played since the 2014-15 season, marking the end of a historic series.

"BREAKING: For the first time since 2014-15, UConn women’s basketball and South Carolina won’t meet in the regular season," Maggie posted on X. "The teams’ longstanding non-conference regular season series comes to an end."

South Carolina is looking to bounce back from its national title game loss after finding early success in the postseason last season.

Before losing to the UConn Huskies, the Gamecocks defeated Tennessee Tech, Indiana, Maryland, Duke and Texas.

Dawn Staley has been with the South Carolina Gamecocks since 2008. During her time with the Gamecocks, South Carolina has won three national titles, made seven Final Four appearances and won the SEC Tournament title on nine separate occasions.
