UConn's Geno Auriemma receives contract extension through 2025

Arguably the greatest women's college basketball coach in history unsurprisingly won't be going anywhere.

The UConn Huskies confirmed on Friday that Geno Auriemma has signed a contract extension that runs through April 2025 and carries two additional option years that can be picked up by mutual agreement. The 67-year-old will earn a base salary of $600,000 per year and additional compensation of $2.2 million for speaking, consulting and media obligations. That figure increases by $100,000 each year through the contract's expiration.

Across 36 seasons, Auriemma has won 11 NCAA titles and guided the Huskies to 21 Final Fours, their most recent being this spring. According to the NCAA website, he holds 1,119 all-time career wins and trails only Stanford's Tara VanDerveer (1,125) in that category.

"Geno Auriemma has meant so much to the University of Connecticut, and to our entire state, for the last 36 years," UConn athletic director David Benedict said for the prepared statement. "The program that Geno has built is the gold standard in college athletics and I'm thrilled that he will continue to lead it for the foreseeable future."

Auriemma added: "I would like to thank David Benedict and the University of Connecticut leadership for their continued commitment to me and the women's basketball program. UConn has been great to me for the last 36 years and I look forward to being here for at least a few more years. I think the future for our program, and UConn Athletics, is exciting."
