The No. 1 South Carolina Gamecocks were handed their first loss of the 2021-22 season Thursday night when they were stunned by the unranked Missouri Tigers in overtime, 70-69.
Missouri had never beat a No. 1 ranked team in women's basketball before Thursday and the result snapped South Carolina's streak of 43 consecutive wins against unranked opponents. The Tigers pulled off the upset despite being without several players due to COVID-19 protocols, including junior Aijha Blackwell who leads the team in points and rebounds.
Juniors Hayley Frank and Lauren Hansen led the way for Missouri with 21 points each and it was Hansen who hit a layup in the final second of overtime to give the Tigers the win.
