2024 NFL Draft: Georgia CB Kamari Lassiter pinned to AFC South team
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Georgia cornerback Kamari Lassiter has become an interesting topic ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, originally pinned as a first-round prospect.

But there has been some speculation that he could fall due to concerns surrounding his level of speed after he ran an unimpressive 40-yard dash time of 4.5 seconds and made the decision to not participate in the drill in the 2024 NFL Combine.

Still, there's a lot to like about his game that has caught the attention of scouts, including including his pure aggressiveness at the catch point, footwork and ability to read the receiver's eyes so well.

One of the latest mock drafts, this one released by Jonathan M. Alexander of The Houston Chronicle, has Lassiter headed to the AFC South to join the Texans.

Alexander pinned Lassiter to the team in the second round pick No. 42 overall.

"It came down to wide receivers Xavier Worthy of Texas and Ladd McConkey of Georgia and cornerbacks Max Melton of Rutgers, Ennis Rakestraw, of Missouri, T.J. Tampa of Iowa State and Lassiter," Alexander wrote. "I would have chosen Rakestraw — I’ve seen him on many draft boards as a late first-round pick or early second-rounder — but I think he’ll be gone by the time the Texans pick."

Lassiter has a great chance at being on the board, and he fills one of the Texans’ needs at cornerback.Houston signed free agents Jeff Okudah and C.J. Henderson to one-year deals this offseason. But neither player, both of which were drafted in the top 10 of the 2020 NFL Draft, has been able to establish himself as long-term options yet. Perhaps one or both could do that this year. At worst, drafting a cornerback provides the Texans with depth at the position and a potential long-term solution opposite of Derek Stingley Jr."

Lassiter could certainly be an asset to the Texans secondary with the chance to disprove the negative narrative that's surrounded him, despite how well he impressed on film as he ended out the 2023 season with 37 total tackles (21 solo), 8 passes defended and half of a sack.
