2025 68 Ventures Bowl Prediction: Delaware vs Louisiana

The 68 Ventures Bowl is in its fifth name change since kicking off in 1999 and becoming the GMAC Bowl.

It's known for hosting one of the greatest bowl games in modern history - a thrilling 64-61 Marshall win over East Carolina in 2001 - and it's usually among the highest-scoring games of the bowl season, and ...

It's been rough, with nine blowouts in ten years before Arkansas State beat Bowling Green last year 38-31 in a game that wasn't quite as interesting as the final score.

But this time around, it's a big deal for the two programs. Louisiana is playing in its seventh straight bowl game, but it has yet to win one in the first three tries under head coach Michael Desormeaux.

And for Delaware, it was supposed to be done with its first season as an FBS bowl, but because there were extra teams with six wins - and, then, teams started dropping out of the bowls - here it is with a shot at a winning season.

Why Delaware Will Win

The passing attack can bring the production.

Veteran quarterback Nick Minicucci can bomb away, the ground attack is dangerous, and it should all work for a fired up team dealing with a Louisiana team that's been all over the map this season.

The Ragin' Cajuns aren't bad when the defense is on, but when the offense starts turning it over - it gave the ball away multiple times in six games - it has a problem overcoming the mistakes.

The Blue Hen defense isn't anything amazing - it will give up passing yards as quickly as it gets them - but the offense will happily get into a shootout.

It's Delaware in a bowl game. It'll let it rip, and it shouldn't have any problems coming up with 250 passing yards, all while keeping the ball for a long time against a team that doesn't care a lick about the time of possession battle. But ...

Why Louisiana Will Win

The Ragin' Cajun offense is able to move in a hurry. When it gets into a groove, it gets defenses on their heels, and it usually finds ways to win.

It finished the year as the No. 2 offense in the Sun Belt behind the high-powered Texas State attack, but it does bring a little bit of defense, too.

The D might not be a brick wall, but it brings a ton of pressure and isn't afraid to take plenty of chances. The Delaware offensive front has enjoyed a few strong moments for the running game, but the pass protection isn't sketchy, to be nice about it.

No, the Ragin' Cajuns might not have the ball often enough, but when they're on, they win third downs and play the game with they're style. And ...

Delaware vs Louisiana Prediction, Betting Lines

This might sound obvious, but it's not as clear as you might think for some teams.

When Delaware and Louisiana score, they win.

Some teams put up lots of late points in losses, some get into crazy shootouts and lose in wild battles, but Delaware and Louisiana are relatively simple. When they score a lot, that means the offense is working, the defense is doing what it needs to do, and they win.

Again, I know - "yeah, no duh, you win by scoring more than the other team." I'm probably not phrasing this right, so let me go this way.

Neither side is good in low-scoring slugfests. They each need to get to at least 30 points to have a shot at winning - this won't be 24-17 - and these two should hit each other with plenty of haymakers.

And Louisiana will score more points than Delaware.
