Strengths

Built like a deep freezer, Grant is just as difficult to move. His stout, powerful frame allows him to provide a strong anchor against the run, commanding double-team blocks on just about every snap. That’s usually not enough, as Grant still manages to drive his blockers into the backfield with regularity. He’s proven to be equally effective from multiple interior alignments, which should allow him to translate to any scheme at the next level. Grant is a smart player who is quick to diagnose what’s happening in front of him and avoid getting moved out of the play.

Weaknesses

Like many interior defenders with his physical profile, Grant simply doesn’t provide significant value as a pass rusher. He lacks the north/south explosiveness and athleticism to consistently beat blockers to the quarterback, and his combination of inconsistent hand usage and a lack of a refined set of initial moves and counters make it difficult for him to provide splash plays on passing downs. His limited lateral movement skills also make it difficult for Grant to chase runners down the line of scrimmage or change direction to corral the ball-carrier.

Final Analysis

Grant is your classic two-down, space-eating nose tackle who can be the cornerstone of any NFL team’s run defense. His lack of pass-rushing impact could limit his upside at the next level, but as long as he’s put in position to do what he does best, Grant’s massive presence can be a huge asset that ensures opposing offenses will be in plenty of third-and-long situations.
