The 2025 NFL Draft is right around the corner, and we've got you covered with in-depth scouting reports on all of the top prospects at every position in this year's class.

Here's everything you need to know about Michigan tight end Colston Loveland heading into the 2025 draft:

Vitals

Height: 6-5

Weight: 245

Age: 20

Strengths

A true mismatch weapon down the field, Loveland’s combination of size and athleticism makes him the ideal target for his quarterback at all levels of the field. He’s too big for most defensive backs to handle, and too explosive and athletic for most linebackers to stick with in coverage. Loveland’s length gives him a massive catch radius that allows him to win 50/50 balls with regularity, and he’s versatile enough to give his play-caller plenty of creativity when it comes to deploying him from different alignments and motioning him around the formation. Loveland has strong, reliable hands that can move the chains in clutch situations and make high-difficulty catches in tight spaces.

Weaknesses

He’s a willing blocker coming from Michigan’s run-heavy offense, but Loveland’s lean, high-cut frame makes it challenging for him to consistently be the victor in the “low man wins” battle for leverage at the point of attack. While he can be a dynamic receiver downfield and after the catch, Loveland’s route-running ability still needs some polish if he wants to create consistent separation against back-seven defenders in the NFL.

Final Analysis

There are more complete tight ends in this class, but Loveland’s big frame, massive wingspan and impressive overall athleticism make him the kind of pass-catching weapon NFL offensive coordinators love. His ability to attack opposing defenses from a wide range of alignments and create mismatches should make him a big-play magnet right away, and improving his route-running skills could unlock another level to his potential. Even if he never becomes a dominant in-line blocker, Loveland should still be an every-down star in the passing game.
