As the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine continued Friday, the cornerbacks kicked off the group of defensive backs to run the 40-yard dash. The safeties followed shortly thereafter, and the Top 10 fastest times are in.

After a strong performance in the vertical jump, the attention turned to South Carolina’s Nick Emmanwori. He impressed with a 4.40-second run on his first attempt and followed that up with a 4.38 on his second go-round. He still finished second among the group, though, as Kansas State’s Marques Sigle came in at an impressive 4.37 seconds.

Sigle jumped into the Top 10 all-time 40-yard dash times for safeties at the NFL Scouting Combine, while Emmanwori was just outside. Here are the fastest 40-yard dash times for safeties at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.

1. Marques Sigle, Kansas State – 4.37 seconds

The fastest safety of the group at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, Marques Sigle opened some eyes with his 40-yard dash time. He clocked in at 4.37 seconds on his first attempt.

Sigle spent two years at K-State after transferring from North Dakota State. He impressed during that time, totaling 123 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and four interceptions – three of which came this past season.

T5. Andrew Mukuba, Texas – 4.45 seconds

Woodson played five seasons at Cal, but made his mark the last three years. During that time, he totaled 226 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and five interceptions as a key piece of the defense.

Jonas Sanker is coming off two dominant years at Virginia before declaring for the NFL Draft. He was strong during the 40-yard dash, as well, with a time of 4.48 seconds.

Sanker led the ACC in solo tackles each of the last two seasons while at UVA. Over that time, he had 138 solo stops while totaling 205 total tackles and 13 tackles for loss.

Former USC Heisman winner claims Lincoln Riley is on the hot seat

Matt Leinart is not sugarcoating things about Lincoln Riley ahead of the 2025 college football season. Leinart was interviewed by “The Escapist” for a story published on Tuesday. In the interview, Leinart said that Riley is on the hot seat. “I know Lincoln very well, and he is on the hot seat,” Leinart said. “I think he would tell you that, because you have to win there — especially when you win 10 games or 11 games out the gate.” Leinart is referring to Riley’s first season at USC. Riley went 11-3 in 2022, including an 8-1 performance in Pac-12 play. Quarterback Caleb Williams had a huge season that year, and the hire of Riley looked like a home run. But things fell apart after that. The Trojans slipped to 8-5 in Williams’ junior season, and they went just 7-6 last year in their first season in the Big Ten. Riley has gone 26-14 in his three seasons at USC and is just 15-11 over his last two years, which isn’t good enough for the Trojans’ standard. Leinart feels that the play of quarterback Jayden Maiava will be the key for the season. Maiava appeared in seven games for the Trojans last season and passed for 1,201 yards, 11 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He is a transfer from UNLV and took over the starting job from Miller Moss late last year. Moss has since transferred to Louisville. USC is still a ways away from where they were from 2003-2005 when Leinart started at quarterback for them and won the Heisman Trophy. They need to show improvement in 2025, and they will open their season against Missouri State on Aug. 30.

New report sheds light on how Cowboys view Micah Parsons situation

It is no secret that the relationship between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys is not on solid ground, but that does not necessarily mean it is tarnished beyond repair. On the latest episode of his podcast, which was released on Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter predicted that Parsons and the Cowboys are "headed towards divorce." Schefter said the two sides have not spoken since April and that it seems like a matter of when — not if — they part ways. Longtime NFL reporter Josina Anderson was told the situation is not quite that grim, at least from the Cowboys' perspective. Anderson reported on Tuesday evening that the relationship between Parsons and Dallas "has not deteriorated to the point of an imminent divorce." "I did not detect any obvious tones of concern in my sourced conversation when I recently asked about ESPN's Adam Schefter's report stating he sees 'these two sides headed towards a divorce, in time.' ... I just feel Dallas has so much history with protracted (and) sensitive negotiations, thus my current impression is the club remains unrattled, at this time," Anderson wrote in a post on X. Parsons is earning just over $24M in the final year of his rookie contract this season. The 26-year-old had 12 sacks in 13 games last season and has 52.5 sacks in 63 career games. Parsons is arguably the best pass-rusher in the NFL when healthy. Although Parsons has formally requested a trade, the Cowboys maintain that they have no intention of dealing their four-time Pro Bowl defensive end. The only real leverage Parsons has is creating a headache in Dallas. He remains under contract, and the Cowboys also can use the franchise tag on him in each of the next two seasons. If Parsons were to sit out regular-season games, his contract would eventually toll. Even with Jerry Jones publicly taking shots at Parsons, one massive contract offer could change everything.

Fever receive devastating injury news on Sophie Cunningham

Injuries continue to be the pitfall for the Indiana Fever this season. Per ESPN, Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has been ruled out for the rest of the season following a knee injury she suffered in Indiana's 99-93 win over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday. The injury comes with nine games left in the regular season for the Fever. At 19-16, Indiana has the third-best record in the Eastern Conference and is set to make a playoff push this summer. The Fever have been without second-year star Caitlin Clark since July 15, as the guard has been dealing with a groin injury. The team hopes she can return in the regular season, but Indiana could be significantly shorthanded on offense until her return. Cunningham has averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 30 games played this season. She has been crucial as a rotational player, averaging 25.2 minutes for the Fever. The 29-year-old became an early darling of the WNBA this season for standing up for Clark both on and off the court. Cunningham recently signed a podcast deal with Colin Cowherd. The good news for Cunningham is that she is expected to make a full recovery. However, the injury will crush what could have been a special season for the Fever if and when Clark returns.

Sophie Cunningham's sister calls out WNBA officials

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has not been shy about criticizing WNBA officials, and that trait seems to run in the family. Cunningham’s sister Lindsey had a critical message for the WNBA after Sophie was injured during the second quarter of the Fever’s game against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday. Lindsey Cunningham wrote on X that the league was “pathetic” for “fining players for commenting on your poor officiating” instead of “hiring officials that are able to call a consistent game and protect your athletes.” Sophie Cunningham suffered a season-ending knee injury when Connecticut’s Bria Hartley drove into her knee while trying to get to the basket. Critics felt that Hartley dove into Cunningham’s knee instead of making a basketball play. Cunningham is frequently critical of WNBA officiating and has already received multiple fines this season for it. Presumably, her sister’s commentary will not cost her any money, but one has to be wonder if Sophie’s thoughts are the same. The Fever came from behind to beat Connecticut 99-93 in overtime on Sunday. The win moved them to 19-16 on the year and back into sixth place in the standings.
