The Wisconsin Badgers have extended a new offer in the 2027 class to a recruit who comes from a very familiar high school within the program.
Savior Owens, a native of Massillon, Ohio, earned a scholarship from Wisconsin which brought the total amount of offers the unranked recruit holds to five. Bowling Green, Kent State, Miami (OH), and Toledo all extended scholarship offers before Wisconsin. The Badgers became the first power conference program to offer the running back, and could be in position to book a visit with the recruit.
The running back is currently in the midst of his junior season for Massillon Washington High School after playing in just five games the season prior. Owens finished the year with 103 rushing yards, but has already surpassed that total through two games after recording a 100-plus yard performance on the ground. The running back has also recorded two touchdowns this season while averaging 4.9 yards per carry.
The 5-foot-10-inch, 185-pound running back is a shifty open field runner who often finds ways to slip past linebackers and into the secondary. Owens primarily looks to use his speed or agility first, but the running back is not afraid of putting a shoulder down and seeking out contact when carrying the football. Additionally, the physical back is also a willing blocker and can slow down incoming blitzes if needed.
With the recent success of Owens in mind and a new connection to the program, the Badgers decided to extend a scholarship offer early in hopes of developing a relationship with the recruit. Wide receiver Jayden Ballard and offensive lineman Nolan Davenport are both Massillon Washington alumni as the Badgers have grown to be very familiar with the school.
Ballard, a transfer from Ohio State, was the 99th overall recruit in the 2021 recruiting class coming out of Massillon Washington. Ballard was the fourth-ranked recruit in the state of Ohio and a four-star prospect, but no program had a chance at landing the wide receiver aside from the Buckeyes. The wide receiver shutdown his recruitment after only seven scholarship offers.
Davenport, on the other hand, was a three-star recruit in the 2025 recruiting class as the process treated the offensive lineman much differently. Davenport earned 34 scholarship offers before ultimately deciding on Wisconsin. As a recruit, Davenport was the 784th overall prospect and the 30th overall recruit in the state of Ohio as quarterback Tavien St. Clair highlighted the in-state class.
Owens is still fairly new to the recruiting process, and this could be the time where the Badgers are able to develop the best relationship with the running back.
