4-Star DT Francis Brewu Picks Pitt Over Michigan State

Brewu took an official visit to Michigan State over the weekend, his third since the Spartans offered over the summer, but even with the final visit, the Panthers won out.

It’s the latest piece of good news surrounding Pitt and defensive linemen, Brewu’s re-commitment coming in the wake of the addition of a few transfer linemen — Clemson defensive end David Ojiegbe, Indiana defensive tackle Nick James and Kansas State defensive end Nate Matlack.

Brewu also remains the third four-star defensive lineman in the class of 2024, joining defensive tackle Jahsear Whittington and defensive end Sincere Edwards.

Brewu committed to Pitt in March over offers from Akron, Army, Ball State, Boston College, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Duke, Iowa State, Kent State, Miami (Oh.), Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan. He was offered by Michigan State, Miami and Wisconsin after committing to Pitt, but the interest resulted in naught.

Brewu is coming off a dominant season at Thomas Worthington High in which he showcased exactly why he’s a perfect fit as an impact tackle in the defensive scheme.

“I just feel like I fit perfectly in that system because they run a four-man system and they run a vertical system, so you can get vertical,” Brewu said.

247Sports rates Brewu as the 655th-ranked recruit in the class (45th-ranked defensive lineman and 19th-ranked recruit from Ohio) while On3 rates him as the 534th-ranked recruit in the class (36th-ranked defensive lineman and 18th-ranked recruit from Ohio).

Rivals rates him as the 20th-ranked defensive tackle and 11th-ranked recruit from Ohio — holding that new four-star status and a 5.8 Rivals Rating.

Brewu will sign his National Letter of Intent later and officially join the class.
