A day many college football fans have been waiting on is upon us with Ezavier Crowell set to announce a commitment decision.

Crowell is a 2026 five-star running back out of Jackson High School in Alabama. He is set to choose between Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Texas and Georgia.

The Crimson Tide’s push for Crowell has been in motion for more than a year, and it includes a long list of visits to Tuscaloosa. The five-star running back earned an Alabama offer on Jan. 1, 2024. This was a little over two weeks after Kalen DeBoer was introduced as the next head coach at the University of Alabama. Crowell was one of the first 2027 prospects DeBoer and his staff decided to go after.

Crowell’s Alabama offer came during a time when the Crimson Tide’s staff was transitioning to the DeBoer era, attempting to sign Ryan Williams after he de-committed and looking to retain their roster. In the midst of all of this, the Alabama staff looked at the talented freshman running back and said we not to get on him now and build a relationship.

The Tide got Crowell on campus a few days later on Feb. 3 for an unofficial visit. He returned to Tuscaloosa approximately two months later for A-Day on April 17. He was back on campus in June for a camp and returned to Tuscaloosa two times during the 2024 football season.

It was crystal clear there was a lot of mutual interest between Crowell when he was a 2027 prospect. This is why the moment Crowell announced he was re-classifying, Alabama immediately became a strong favorite to land him. However, Auburn and Texas were close to pacing the Tide in the number of visits. This put the Longhorns and the Tigers heavily in the mix alongside the Tide. Florida, Florida State and Georgia have made their marks as well.

The visits to Alabama have not slowed down since Crowell re-classified. He re-classified earlier this year on Jan. 21, and the Jackson product has visited Alabama four times since then.

These visits have allowed Crowell to get really familiar with the Alabama culture, players and coaches.

“The atmosphere is electric,” Crowell told Touchdown Alabama. “You can feel the tradition the moment you step on campus. The fans, the facilities, and the intensity from the coaching staff, everything just screams championship culture. Everyone there is about business, and you can tell why they have had so much success.”

The five-star has also managed to build a great relationship with Kalen DeBoer. Crowell has previously expressed his respect for DeBoer’s vision.

“He’s got a clear vision for the program and the offense,” said Crowell. “He really broke down how they would utilize my skill set, spreading the field, using tempo, letting playmakers make plays in space. I could definitely see myself thriving in that system and learning a lot under him.”

One program is going to be jumping through the roof when they land Crowell on Thursday. Alabama would love to have him but so would Auburn, Texas, Georgia and company.
