Alabama Announces Ty Simpson News on Thursday

Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson has had an incredible season thus far. The junior has completed 70.2% of his passes for 1,931 yards and 18 touchdowns with just one interception in his first year as Alabama's starter. He also has rushed for 66 yards and two scores.

Simpson, who is in his fourth year with the Crimson Tide, has led the Kalen DeBoer-coached team to six consecutive wins after losing the season opener to the Florida State Seminoles.

The 22-year-old was a five-star prospect and the No. 4 quarterback in the country coming out of Westview High School in Martin, Tennessee, in 2022, according to 247Sports.

With his incredible play through Alabama's first seven games, Simpson has climbed up the Heisman Trophy odds rankings, now sitting as the favorite to win the award at +300, according to BetMGM.

On Thursday, Alabama announced on the team's X account that its star quarterback has been named to another prestigious award watch list.

The Manning Award — which is named after Ole Miss Rebels legend Archie Manning and sons Eli and Peyton — has been presented to the best quarterback in the country as judged by the Sugar Bowl Committee every year since 2004. The watch list contains 22 quarterbacks.

If Simpson were to win the award this year, he would become the third Alabama quarterback to achieve the feat after Mac Jones won it in 2020 and Bryce Young won it the year after. Finalists for the Manning Award will be announced Dec. 4, and the winner will be revealed after the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Simpson and Alabama will continue their 2025 campaign on Saturday against the South Carolina Gamecocks at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
