Spring practices in the wild world of college football are officially underway, bringing with it a slew of exciting storylines.
Few positions in college football are as glamorous as quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide. With former field general Jalen Milroe graduating to the pro ranks, the program is now officially searching for its next signal-caller.
After wrapping up his first season as offensive coordinator in Tuscaloosa, Ryan Grubb has been tasked with helping identify the next QB. Grubb believes that Ty Simpson, Alabama's backup QB from last season, has made the biggest leap in early spring practices.
"I think Ty has has done a good job. I thought he had the biggest jump from day one to day two from being able to take in all of the information, process quickly, and move," the Crimson Tide offensive coordinator said to the media following practice.
A highly touted, five-star recruit out of Westview High School in Martin, Tennessee, Simpson has generated massive expectations entering the college ranks. With a balanced skill set as both a passer and a runner, Simpson presents a dual-threat challenge for opposing defenses a, demonstrating the ability to execute within the structure of an offense or improvise when needed.
As spring practice marches on, the competition for Alabama's quarterback spot is bound to intensify, with Simpson not the only five-star talent on the roster. All eyes will be on whether Keelon Russell, the 2024 National Gatorade Player of the Year, can challenge Simpson for the starting role. Stay tuned!
