Alabama fans react to freshman DB Red Morgan getting compared to Caleb Downs
Gary Cosby Jr.-Tuscaloosa News / USA TODAY NETWORK

He did not have the same star rating as Caleb Downs out of high school, but the University of Alabama is excited about the football player it got to replace the native Georgian in its defensive secondary.

Red Morgan, a four-star freshman from Phenix City, Ala., has turned heads in spring practice.

He has made plays on the field and is position at ‘Husky’ or free safety to be a starter.

The 6-foot, 175-pounder has dissected the defense, stood out in scrimmages, and impressed coaches and teammates. Morgan was one of several in-state prospects in this recruiting class.

Kobe Prentice, a junior wide receiver, compared Morgan to Downs during an interview with Roger Hoover of Crimson Tide Sports Network.

Prentice said Morgan is going to be ‘special’ for Alabama’s program.

Crimson Tide fans feel the same way. They reacted to Prentice’s thoughts on social media.

Morgan is excited to show out for fan Saturday in the A-Day exhibition.
