Alabama has taken yet another roster hit today. It is being reported from Pete Nakos of On3 that EDGE rusher Jeremiah Alexander has entered the transfer portal, becoming the 18th Crimson Tide player to do so this season.
Alexander was a highly sought-after prospect during his high school days. The former five-star in the 2022 class comes from Thompson, a local high school in Alabaster, Alabama. During his recruiting, the 6-foot-1 and 235-pound EDGE rusher ranked No. 15 overall in his class, as well as being the top edge rusher. Many believed he was the future star for the Crimson Tide defense.
Alexander only appeared in four games this season after missing the first three with an injury. Alexander only posted one solo tackle with three assisted tackles during the Tide's 2024 season, with the solo tackle coming in the game against South Carolina.
Alexander was redshirted during the 2022 season, and only appeared in three games to preserve the redshirt title. In 2023, however, Alexander played in all 14 of the Tide's games, mainly as a special teams contributor.
Some fans have expressed concern towards the Tide's recent wave of players entering the portal, stating the Tide may have a "portal problem." Others, however, have lacked concern due to some players' lack of playing time and spots on the depth chart.
Regardless, the Tide are reaching close to 20 players on the roster who will be searching for new opportunities elsewhere. Now, the coaching staff must act to fill in these gaps with recruiting, and pursuits within the portal itself.
