Alabama OC updates Tide’s left guard position battle

Alabama’s quarterback competition has taken the majority of the headlines after two days of fall camp, but a position battle that seems to be neck-and-neck is left guard.

The Crimson Tide retained Geno VanDeMark and landed Texas A&M transfer, Kam Dewberry, during the offseason.

New Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb highlighted what he likes about both guards after two days of fall camp.

“Dewberry and Geno have been battling it out over there primarily,” Grubb said. “Kam has done a really good job of being mobile and physical at the point of attack. Geno is a super savvy player, can play all over the place, can snap a ball and play center, play guard. I think the physicality piece is gonna be a big part.”

Replacing Tyler Booker at left guard is a difficult task, but Grubb believes there’s something that will help whoever lands the starting job in the big picture.

“Playing next to Kadyn Proctor takes a little heat off of them and where they are at, but you also look at it in terms of it might put some pressure on them because that’s a side of the ball where we want to be able to be aggressive and go after people,” Grubb said.
