Alabama’s plan at left tackle up in the air ahead of Mississippi State

Alabama’s offensive line which was hyped as one of the strengths of the team entering the 2023 season has largely been an inconsistent work in progress through four games.

The left tackle position was under the microscope during the Crimson Tide’s 24-10 win against Ole Miss last week where freshman Kadyn Proctor was removed from action in the second quarter in favor of Elijah Pritchett and would return in the second half.

Proctor originally won the job in fall camp after an impressive spring campaign where he competed against Pritchett and has started the first four games of the season.

But on Wednesday when asked about the plan for Proctor and Pritchett this week, head coach Nick Saban shared that Alabama hasn’t committed to a plan just yet.

“With other injuries on the offensive line, we’re moving guys around and we haven’t made an assessment yet,” Saban said. “Because really (Wednesday is) the only real practice – yesterday and I haven’t watched the practice film today. So we make those evaluations on Thursday and Friday as to how we’re going to play guys in the game.”

Outside of left tackle, Alabama’s offensive line departed last weekend a bit banged up as Terrence Ferguson was listed as “very questionable” for the Mississippi State game, as he was injured while replacing starter Darrian Dalcourt who left the game with an injury of his own.

Alabama travels to Starkville on Saturday and will kick off against Mississippi State at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
