Could Pac-12 add schools if Oklahoma, Texas join SEC?

As reports continue linking Texas and Oklahoma with an eventual and seemingly inevitable move to the SEC, some college sports analysts have wondered if conferences such as the Big Ten and Pac-12 would consider expanding by adding some big-name institutions.

Per Heather Dinich of ESPN, Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff said Friday his league isn't yet recruiting new schools but also wouldn't reject discussions on the matter.

"I consider the Pac-12 an exclusive club with a high barrier to entry," Kliavkoff told ESPN. "We love the schools and teams we have today. We're not actively seeking to poach any teams from any conference, but we'd be foolish not to listen if schools call us."

It's been rumored, if not expected, for years an entity such as the SEC or ACC could eventually form a "superconference" of roughly 30 schools, and commissioners such as Kliavkoff won't want to be left without a chair when the figurative music stops if that's the future for college football and other sports. As Dinich noted, Pac-12 presidents and chancellors have the final say on which entities can join the conference and will "give strong consideration to another program's academic standards and reputation."

Money talks, though, and an improved media rights agreement that would come via expansion could force the league's hand and soon.
