Florida International offensive coordinator David Yost will return for a third season with the program, as confirmed to G5FootballDaily via public records request.
The veteran offensive coordinator has been on staff since head coach Mike MacIntyre was hired in 2022 and also serves as the program’s quarterbacks coach.
The Panthers’ offense has endured some struggles over Yost’s tenure, part of which can be attributed to having several first-time starters at the FBS level – most notably first-year starting quarterbacks in Grayson James (2022) and true freshman Keyone Jenkins this past year.
Jenkins, a former three-star recruit who flipped his commitment from Auburn to remain in his hometown of Miami, was a bright spot in 2023 – throwing for 2,414 yards with 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Bringing back Yost to pair with Jenkins should help give the Panthers, who have gone 4-8 the past two seasons, with a measure of continuity as the program looks to make their first bowl game since 2019.
Additionally, the Panthers have had a pair of receivers flourish in Yost’s offense, as 2022’s leading receiver in Tyrese Chambers jumped to the Power Five the following year and this year’s top wideout in Kris Mitchell was one of the top deep threats in the nation and will play for Notre Dame next season.
Prior to his time at FIU, Yost helped develop first-round picks Blaine Gabbert at Missouri and Jordan Love at Utah State.
As a whole, the Panthers’ offense will look to take a significant step forward, after ranking last in Conference USA in 2022 and third-worst in 2023.
Yost’s original contract was set to expire at the end of the 2023 season, but now the Panthers will bring back both Yost and defensive coordinator Jovan Dewitt for a third season in Miami.
