Travis Hunter is making a strong impression on fans as he enters his first NFL season.
A woman who says she sat next to Hunter on a flight over the weekend shared a story about the interactions she had with the Jacksonville Jaguars rookie that has gone viral. According to a Facebook post from the passenger, Hunter was “so polite” to her and offered to help her with multiple things during the flight.
The woman, Sandy Hawkins Combs, said she did not know Hunter was an NFL player until other passengers began asking to take photos with the former Colorado star.
“I had the most wonderful flight home from Denver. I met the nicest young man who sat next to me,” Hawkins Combs wrote. “He offered to put my bag in the overhead compartment and helped me with my tray. He was always polite, saying ‘yes ma’am’ or ‘no ma’am.’ Anyone would be proud to have him as a son or grandson — so polite.
“People walking by were saying congratulations, great job, or even taking pictures. I turned and asked him, ‘Who am I sitting next to?’ I looked at his Jaguar pants, smiled, and asked, ‘Are you an athlete?’ He smiled and said, ‘I’m Travis. Yes, I was drafted by the Jags.’ I already told my sons I want his jersey.
“He’s so humble and down-to-earth — I would have never guessed he was a professional athlete. JACKSONVILLE JAGS, you did good! I will be buying tickets.”
Hunter had flown to Denver to receive his degree from the University of Colorado. The two-way star earned first-team All-Academic honors twice during his collegiate career.
The Jaguars traded up three spots to No. 2 overall in the NFL Draft last month for Hunter. We have already heard some hints about how the team plans to utilize him, and it sounds like Hunter will be on the field a lot.
If Hunter is as impressive on the field for the Jaguars as he was on his flight from Denver, the Jaguars will not regret trading a future first-round pick to go and get him.
