Another Big Weekend of Decommitments and Flips

The recruiting chaos continued this weekend, with a dozen decommitments and/or flips occurring on Saturday and Sunday. Here is a quick breakdown of each:

Flips

4-star LB Kenneth Simon II (Alabama to Tennessee)

In what was the first major SEC flip of the weekend, the Vols were able to get Simon, an in-state four-star linebacker and legacy, to stay home. Simon was only an Alabama commit for a month but remained a Tennessee priority. A recent visit to Knoxville helped seal the deal.

4-star OL Kennedee Jackson (Florida to Georgia)

The second major SEC flip quickly followed. New Florida head coach Jon Sumrall pulled off a major recruiting victory by grabbing Jackson’s commitment two weeks ago, but he quickly found out that when Georgia and Kirby Smart want an in-state recruit, they usually get him. The flip process began after Jackson took an official visit to Athens only days after his commitment to the Gators.

3-star OL Coderro McDaniel (Ole Miss to Colorado)

McDaniel committed to the in-state Rebels in late April but continued to keep his process “open”. This resulted in an official visit to Boulder in early June, which culminated in his flip on Sunday. Pulling a three-star Mississippi recruit away from Ole Miss is a nice recruiting victory for Colorado and head coach Deion Sanders.

3-star LB Rome Ewell (Houston to Arizona)

Arizona was able to pull a Texas recruit away from Houston after he took an official visit to Tucson last weekend. Ewell had committed to the Cougars two weeks ago after taking his first official visit there. The Wildcats have made a serious push into Texas during this cycle, as eight of their 11 commitments are currently from the Lone Star State.

3-star LB Caleb Green (Missouri to Nebraska)

Green committed to Missouri in late April and didn’t even receive an offer from Nebraska until a week ago, but an official visit to Lincoln was enough to change his mind. This is an unexpected blow for Missouri considering he is an in-state recruit whose older brother, Cayden Green, plays for the Tigers.

3-star QB James Perrone (East Carolina to Pittsburgh)

While many flips are surprising, this wasn’t one of those. Pittsburgh quickly focused its attention on Perrone after losing a quarterback commitment, Kevin Verpaele, to USF last week. Once they got Perrone on campus for an official visit, the Panthers’ staff was able to convince him that Pittsburgh was his final destination.

3-star CB Shahariam Thurston (Colorado State to Iowa State)

Thurston committed to Colorado State after an official visit last weekend, but that only lasted a week. Iowa State, which offered Thurston in late April, convinced him to take an official visit to Ames this weekend which resulted in his flip on Sunday.

3-star WR Aubrey Johnson (Florida Atlantic to Memphis)

Johnson committed to the Owls in late April and took an official visit to campus last weekend. However, an official visit to Memphis this weekend helped change his mind.

Decommitments

3-star ATH Dayon Cooper (Florida State)

An early April commitment to Florida State, Cooper decommitted after taking an official visit to in-state Tennessee. A flip to the Vols is the most likely conclusion. Cooper was recruited by Florida State to play defense, while Tennessee sees him as an offensive player which also helped his decision process.

3-star CB Nazir Pitchford (Kansas)

The Florida defensive back committed to Kansas after an official visit to Lawrence last weekend, but a visit to North Carolina quickly led to his decommitment. The Tar Heels are the heavy favorite to finalize the flip soon.

3-star DT Kaleb Exume (Louisville)

Exume committed to Louisville after the spring game in mid-April and returned for an official visit in late May. However, the Florida defensive tackle took an official visit to Boston College this weekend, which resulted in his decommitment and likely upcoming flip.

3-star CB Nasim Eason (San Diego State)

Eason has been committed to the Aztecs since early February but decommitted on Sunday. While his next decision isn’t as imminent as the three players above, Arizona State is considered the favorite for the in-state cornerback.
