Arch Manning Speaks on His Emotional Celebration

Texas quarterback Arch Manning gave fans a performance that met his preseason Heisman favorite expectations on Saturday night, and he did so with built-up emotions that were on display throughout the game.

More specifically, though, his emotion burst on the scene after he broke a defender’s tackle for a 5-yard rushing touchdown, and followed it up by standing over the defender and having a staring match with him as he got up.

After the expressive celebration, Manning thought he’d be penalized, but he managed to evade the flag.

“The ref came up to me, I was so scared. The ref ripped my ass,” Manning said. “I apologized to the ref, I didn’t say anything to the [defender].”

However, it also left some fans feeling as though the celebration was a little much, considering his recent struggles and the quality of the team that he was playing. Some took to social media to voice their opinion.

Manning apologized after the game, though, and took ownership of his mistake.

“Felt good to get back in the end zone, probably a little much there, my mom was pretty mad about that,” Manning said. “A little immature, but I think it was some built-up frustration.”

The frustration behind the emotions seemed to help with his confidence and performance, and was even something that was noted by head coach Steve Sarkisian post-game as well.

If Manning can continue to play like this, like he has something to prove, then this high-powered offense should be the same offense that we see from now on, and put Texas in a very favorable position against the Florida Gators when the time comes.

For now, Texas will make use of a bye week to recover and prepare for Florida the week after.
