Arizona State Football Adds Elite 2027 Quarterback

Arizona State just landed a name that should have fans in Tempe buzzing. Weston Nielsen, a four-star quarterback from Bastrop, Texas, has committed to the Sun Devils and becomes the early headliner of the 2027 recruiting class.

Nielsen is ranked as one of the top quarterbacks in the country for his class, and if you’ve seen the tape, you get why. He’s got the frame, the arm, and that extra gear you can’t really coach. The guy threw for over 3,000 yards and 44 touchdowns last season, and that wasn’t against scrubs. Bastrop isn’t some no-name program, and Nielsen made it look easy most nights. His performance helped him earn a spot inside the On3 300.

He had offers from Oregon, Texas Tech, SMU, and a few others, but in the end, it was Kenny Dillingham and quarterbacks coach Marcus Arroyo who closed the deal. Need any further confirmation that Dillingham is staying in Tempe? Here it is!

It’s still early, and we all know how recruiting works. Commitments don’t always stick, but this one feels like it has some stability. Nielsen sounds bought in, and you can tell the ASU staff views him as more than just another add-on. He’s a foundational piece they can build a class around, especially if they can pair him with a few more skill guys over the next year or so.

Arizona State has been climbing ever since that breakout 2024 run, and this is another step in the right direction. They’re not just aiming to stay relevant; they’re starting to pull talent that would’ve laughed them off a couple of years ago. That’s the Dillingham effect, and it’s very real.

Weston Nielsen is in. Now the real fun begins.
