Arizona State Lands Former Top Cornerback Recruit in LSU’s Laterrance Welch
SCOTT CLAUSE/USA TODAY Network / USA TODAY NETWORK

Arizona State lands a player from the transfer portal for the third time today. Now, former LSU Cornerback Laterrance Welch announced that he will be joining the Sun Devils.

Welch, a 6’1 Junior corner from Lafayette, Louisiana, had nine tackles this season and had one pass defense.

It was obvious that Welch needed a change of scenery. He had barely seen the field in his first two seasons but was a highly touted recruit coming out of high school.

When Welch came out in the 2022 class, he was a top 150 national prospect and a top 25 cornerback in the country. He was a highly-ranked four-star, who chose to stay close to home, despite receiving offers from almost every single Big-10 school and SEC school in the country.

As I said, Welch has only played in 22 games in his career and has not started any of them. Welch has a chance to be a massive impact player for a team that lost almost their entire secondary to the transfer portal or draft. Welch joins Javan Robinson as the two corners who have announced transfers to ASU so far.
