Arkansas has officially signed former Troy edge rusher Phillip Lee, adding a veteran presence to its front seven ahead of the 2025 season. Lee confirmed his commitment to the Razorbacks after a weekend visit to Fayetteville, becoming one of head coach Sam Pittman’s key spring additions through the NCAA transfer portal. The Jacksonville, Florida, native brings three years of college experience and enters his final season of eligibility ready to compete in the SEC.

Lee arrives at Arkansas following a breakout season with Troy, where he posted career highs in multiple defensive categories. During the 2024 campaign, he recorded 32 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five sacks, one forced fumble, and a pass deflection across 12 games. His performance helped anchor Troy’s defense from the “bandit” position a hybrid role combining edge rushing and outside linebacker responsibilities.
Over his three-year career with the Trojans, Lee accumulated 53 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks. While his stat line may not have drawn national headlines, his consistent contributions and physical presence made him one of the Sun Belt’s more effective defensive linemen.
Though Lee played just one game against a Power Five opponent last season, mid-September at Iowa, he made his impact felt with a tackle for loss in limited opportunities. Arkansas is now hoping to see that kind of disruption every week as it adjusts to SEC competition.

Arkansas wasted no time pursuing Lee once he entered the portal, identifying him as a top target to strengthen its pass rush. After arriving on Thursday, Lee concluded his visit by Saturday and made his decision shortly afterward.
Speaking about his choice, Lee cited the coaching staff as a key factor: “The relationship with all the coaches on the defensive staff,” Lee said. “They said they need a dog. Well, I’m a dog. I can’t wait to get to work with them.”

He also pointed to Arkansas' facilities and the opportunity to work with head coach Sam Pittman. “I spent a lot of time with the coaches, seeing the facilities they’re very nice and big. Also, being around Coach Pittman, he’s a cool person coaching football.”
Lee was rated as a three-star transfer by the On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings, coming in at No. 406 overall and No. 52 among EDGE defenders. While not among the most highly ranked portal names, his production and experience suggest he could be a valuable addition in Fayetteville.
With one year to make his mark at the Power Five level, Lee has the opportunity to fill a critical role in Arkansas’ defense. For a team seeking to elevate its pass rush, his arrival is both timely and strategic.
